Chef Nick Liapes
Chef Nick Liapes, is a seasoned chef with the flare of creating new and tasty dishes. His Greek heritage pushes him to have fun with whatever he prepares. He takes pride in cooking the traditional Greek dishes that his yiayia and parents prepared for him when growing up. Do to the years of practical experience, formal education, striving to serve the customer, creating new dishes, and his background, Cooking has become a blast! Starting at the age of 12, Chef Nick has followed a path in the food service industry. He was one of the first males to enroll in food courses at Merrillville High School where he also received the Home Economic Award in 1980. Chef Nick went on to attend Northwood Institute of Culinary Arts and Purdue University of West Lafayette. After graduating Chef Nick worked as the Sous Chef for Ramada Inn, Orland, Florida. After moving back to his hometown he started working for Consolidated Specialty Restaurants. He was the Owner-Chef of Nick’s Deli-Café in Crown Point, Indiana and for 11 years he has been a Deli Director in the Grocery Industry, with the last 4 ½ years with G.A. Food Groups. In the past Chef Nick has cooked personally for Curly from The Harlem Globe Trotters, Country Star Kenny Rodgers, and Senator Richard Lugar. Currently, Chef Nick has been involved with the ever grown and diverse foods that are offered in the exciting world of delicatessens. He is strongly engaged in product development at G.A. Foods Central Commissary, which produces all the salads, entrees, soups, and sauces for all four of the corporation’s delicatessens. “I’m always looking for new and exciting foods”, I believe food is entertainment and should be enjoyed with music, family and friends.
